More Juncos= More Practice

Here is some more Dark Eyed Juncos from the N.J.A.S.
My original plans were to look for the  Shrike at the Hackensack Meadowlands but the overcast and windy conditions hampered that outing so I settled with the abundant Juncos instead.

Junco in hiding Sharpie in the zone.

Recently I had a Sharp shined Hawk in the neighborhood that has been putting the songbirds in terror , as you can see in this Dark eyed Juncos frozen position.
Mobbing is usually the case with Bigger Birds of Prey such as Red Tailed Hawks and certain Owls but with Accipiters no behavior is usually exhibited I think it is a Bird on Bird Predator instinct.
On a another note the Titmouse sounded the its OK alert when the coast was clear, when the Danger subsided.

When Fox Sparrows arrive

When Fox Sparrows arrive in Numbers many would say the weather is turning  should it be for better or worse?
In our case 2 to 4 inches of Snow ,in Wisconsin standards that's nothing but in southern part of New Jersey Blizzard conditions are prelavent Tomorrow, so keep your feeders full this is Red Pole time, as I can recall back in Feb 1977 with a simular case scenario brought close to 100 of these winter finches to my suburb yard.

Wintertime Blues?

Yes there is a cure for the Wintertime Blues, thinking of the  Wonderful Northern Cardinals Song which is about due in two weeks, or this Tufted Titmouse which already was testing his hormones in full song, I was surprised to get a decent capture of this little songster after weaving through many obstructions.
