Appalachian Trail Digiscoping

One of my favorite Summer time breeding area"s for DigiScoping is the Appalachian Trail area of the Wallkil
Grasslands  in Vernon New Jersey , what makes this area interesting besides the Birding.

The variety of Hikers that hike the trail , being today the most variety I met some great folks from West Virginia that been on the trail for about a month now , along with a couple from Maine what great story's and the resources of survival that they adapt to there Journey so guys if your checking out my Blog good luck with your Journeys.

I also had a good Prairie Warbler shot which is about my only decent one of the year yes I was spiked.

RAW test with the P6000

I decided to try the P6000 RAW feature today on some common species, one thing about the P6000"s RAW is no continuous shooting I timely frame at a time!

I also want to include a Grasshopper Sparrow in RAW format , one thing I noticed that more contrasty Birds work better with RAW shooting especially with the P6000 as far as Sharpness and focus.

RAW&jpeg comparison with the Canon Powershot S90

I was recently out in the field taken captures of a Black crowned night heron in extreme low light conditions were I only managed a 1/4th of a second shutter speed ,I decided to take back to back RAW/JPEG captures to compare detail one thing I noticed in RAW there is no in Camera Sharpening as in JPEG so you have to be right on the Money with focus and having no shake factors.
First I will add the RAW version in which I added UnSharpen mask at 50% 0.7 .

Now here is the JPEG version were I tried to duplicate the color as close as possible No sharpening was added just re sized.

Here is a Robin I did in RAW on Thursday my conclusion is JPEG is kind off of fake out making yourself believe your Pictures are sharper than they  are actually , RAW shooting shows all infractions.

Early June species

I had the chance to Bird and DigiScope a few of my favorite haunts for some of Jerseys Breeding Birds one of my first and one of my Favorite is Hofstra Park a Jem of a Migrant trap also holds some nice Breeding species such as Brown Thrasher  Catbird  Indigo Bunting   American Goldfinch  Northern RoughWinged Swallow, and others.
Another of my Favorite locations especially for Grasshopper Sparrow is The Wallkill Grasslands in Vernon, I had a blast of a time stalking Grasshopper Sparrows and Bobolinks and Prairie Warblers this Jem of a spot will be  good right through July, and it is also good for Raptors in the winter.
And forgot to mention plenty of Cedar Waxwings nesting in the Red Cedar and Spruce trees.
