The Canon Powershot S100

Hello and Happy New Year,, I decided to go all out and Purchase the Canon S100 partially from seeing my friend Yoshiharu Ishimari postings and captures with this cam http://translate.google.co.jp/translate?hl=ja&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.digisco.jp%2F,, I was quite impressed with the low noise and image quality so I picked one up and took it out for a go with some common species ,,and what a day with the weather overcast with low light perfect for testing the higher ISO settings which I had set at 320.

The Last capture of the Female Mallard was full size with no Sharpening, so in summary I think we have a winner .
A different feature on this camera that had me really excited was a that you can manually move the focus area around the screen unlike the Canon S90/95 which is fixed in the center, there I was sold on it,and considering the5x optical zoom it only took me 2 clicks on the 30 wide eyepiece to clear the vignetting , I will try the 20/60 Zoom soon and see if it only takes around 3 to 4 clicks to achieve the same goal, which will open the door for Digiscopers that use the Zoom eyepieces.

Dear Kevin.
Happy new year.
Excellent captures. Do you really think this is a better camera than the S95? Looking forward to the results obtained with the zoom.
Regards, Sjerp

Thanks Happy New year,,Yes I think the Image Sensor in the Canon S100 is better and the noise level shows it,, and I will test the Zoom eyepicw within a month.

Hi, these are great images. I am looking to get a better camera for my Nikon scope. I have two Nikons, but they do not shoot in RAW. I have been looking at the Nikon adapter that is functional for many cameras. Which adapter are you using for these??? I do take photos with a Canon 7D, and have several good lenses, but will never be able to afford the 500, so I am going back to digiscoping for the distance......Your photos just encourage me that this is the correct direction for me to go, so I can get the bird just out of my range!!!

Hi, love your photos. This is even more encouragement to me to get back to digiscoping for the birds at a distance. I have a Nikon scope, but have been looking for a good camera that shoots in RAW, and this looks like a great choice for me!

this keeps deleting my comments!!!! I must be hitting the wrong link..ANYWAY, for the third time, I am excited to see your pics, as I have been wanting to get the 500 mm lens for my canon, but have decided it is just too costly. So getting this camera, and retiring my old Nikon P5100 will be a great option for the far away photos.
Thanks for the information, and the great pictures...

Sjerp definite an upgrade from the CanonS95.

The Adapter I use is the Vortex PS-100 with the 52mm Adapter / 52mm Kowa ring.

Thanks Sawwhets new,, The S100 you can shoot in RAW ,as with no filter thread cams you will have to get an adapter with the likes of the Vortex P-100 from Eagle Optics.

Thanks Andrew!
