Working with Whites

I was out at Mill Creek Marsh today and it was a Snowy Egret fest , but I had alot of trouble setting the correct ex poser , so I decided to manual focus and set the shutter speed I think that was the ticket .

Also there was a nice flight of Bobolinks, which gave me quite a variety.

Digiscoping Doubters/Jamaica Bay beautys

One of my yearly ventures I look forward to is observing and digiscoping the amazing shorebird migration at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.  I usually don’t bother going there on a Saturday and prefer weekdays, but I couldn’t refuse the opportunity with the high tide and incredible diversity of shorebird species that were present.  Right off the bat, a conventional DSLR/telephoto user began criticizing my equipment and technique saying he gets way more keepers and better resolution over digiscoping.  Apparently, he tried it once, but it didn’t work for him.  I was a little miffed, but I kept my composure and just chuckled to myself.

I think some of these “big lens” guys feel intimidated by photographers who employ the digiscoping technique because the gear costs a fraction of the $20K they spent on their super-telephoto rigs.  As for the quality, just judge for yourself!  They may have a point for flight shots, but just wait until I get the Kowa DSLR adapter for the Canon 7D.

Anyway, I had some wonderful captures of Short-billed Dowitchers, Stilt Sandpipers, and Semipalmated Plovers from the East.  Thanks to everyone for your support over the years – I really appreciate it!

Enjoy!

Yes I made it another year ,I don't know how I made through another year, but I did accomplish some learning curves along with working with 2 Cameras the Canon S90 along with the Nikon P6000 with the 30wide eyepiece.
Another thing that came into the great category of the year, is Digiscoping legend Paul Hackett ,did I mention Paul is a part of the Kowa Prominar team and he is producing some great work just over the Past 2 weeks.
I would like to also thank all the followers of  Jersey Digiscoping thanks for making it all possible ladies and Gents. As a tradition I would like to include one of my early Vortex Skyline ED Scope captures from 2008 enjoy.

Appalachian Trail Digiscoping

One of my favorite Summer time breeding area"s for DigiScoping is the Appalachian Trail area of the Wallkil
Grasslands  in Vernon New Jersey , what makes this area interesting besides the Birding.

The variety of Hikers that hike the trail , being today the most variety I met some great folks from West Virginia that been on the trail for about a month now , along with a couple from Maine what great story's and the resources of survival that they adapt to there Journey so guys if your checking out my Blog good luck with your Journeys.

I also had a good Prairie Warbler shot which is about my only decent one of the year yes I was spiked.

RAW test with the P6000

I decided to try the P6000 RAW feature today on some common species, one thing about the P6000"s RAW is no continuous shooting I timely frame at a time!

I also want to include a Grasshopper Sparrow in RAW format , one thing I noticed that more contrasty Birds work better with RAW shooting especially with the P6000 as far as Sharpness and focus.
